The little town of Brokenwood is visited by unconventional inspector Mike Shepherd who has a troubled past and various personal issues. He is on a special assignment to investigate a local police officer. After making connection between two cases, he decides to stay in this seemingly quiet town indefinitely. He starts working with a new assistant, the intelligent detective Kristin Sims.
